LUXEXCEL | Uses Cases: Near Field Lens


The near field lens can be used in automotive for interior and exterior lighting applications, shaping the LED intensity into a desired light distribution. Intensity profiles from diffused to collimated beams can be reached with minimal light losses due to total internal reflection. To realize total internal reflection, an ideally smooth surface is mandatory. 3D printing technology acheives such surfaces easily.

OPTIS OSD Solutions allow you to calculate near field lenses for any LED, such as being able to couple the LED emitted light into a light guide with minimum loss.

Process to apply
  • Download the following CAD demo (30Mo) (you need to login with your customer account)
  • Unzip and Apply the Luxexcel's Material to the CAD:

    Apply it to the CAD
  • Access OPTIS OSD (or other SPEOS function) to calculate the lens shape
    In OSD function: Input parameters are LED position, some geometrical parameters on the near field lens, angular intensity (x and y can be different)
  • Automatically calculate the Near Field Lens
  • Conduct simulation
  • Export the result to STEP
  • Transfer this STEP file to Luxexcel by clicking here to upload your file to print it in 3D
